Encapsulation Method of Asbestos Abatement
$79.00
Presented by Cole Stanton
Description
Overview
Participants will learn about the encapsulation method of asbestos abatement. Asbestos remains among the most prevalent health hazards in structure. Prized for its versatility as an insulator and for resistance to fire, asbestos containing materials (ACM) were incorporated into innumerable construction products. Only 30% of the asbestos legacy has been addressed, and there is to cutoff date as new construction still can install ACM today. While there is a vibrant asbestos abatement profession, everyone related to construction needs to understand the processes of abatement: removal, enclosure or encapsulation. Of these three, encapsulation is both the least understood, and at the same time often the most advantageous in savings of time and cost. Contractors like emergency restoration contractors, GCs, and weatherization benefit from ACM education. Your presenter is Cole Stanton, arguably the preeminent specialist on encapsulation with 30+ years of direct involvement, and he explores technical elements, regulatory issues, as well as real lessons and tips from field experience.
This class is part of our Technical Excellence curriculum at Restoration Crosscheck. You will find it in our Body of Knowledge Content Library. Whether a restoration or abatement contractor, this information is valuable for leadership, estimators, supervisors, and technicians.
Learning Objectives
-
- For attendees to better recognize when ACM could be present by learning about the origin, nature, and widespread use in construction materials
-
- Emphasis on the Restoration Contractor particular challenges that complicate water, fire and mold remediation.
-
- Understanding how abatement is asbestos-free or asbestos-safe; and, the advantages and downsides of the three abatement methods:Â removal, enclosure and encapsulation.
-
- Participants will learn how penetrating and bridging encapsulants can abate ACM by managing it in place, saving time and cost, but requiring oversight and upkeep.
-
- Participants will gain understanding of lockdown encapsulation, and why it is a key step in ACM removal.
